Describe your professional journey and how you became interested in the broader financial or insurance industries.

I began my career in technology sales, where I partnered with clients to understand their operational challenges and deliver tailored solutions.

That role sharpened my ability to listen, problem-solve, and think strategically — skills that naturally aligned with the world of risk management. As I learned more about how businesses protect their assets and plan for long-term financial stability, I became increasingly drawn to the strategic side of risk.

This growing interest led me to Capterra Risk Solutions, where I gained hands-on experience through an internship and discovered a strong passion for captive insurance.

Provide a brief overview of your current role. What are your core responsibilities within the captive insurance industry?

At Capterra, I am an account manager helping clients protect and grow their businesses through customised risk management strategies, by partnering with our team to manage all internal affairs and coordinate with partnering vendors.

How did you get into the captive insurance sector? Was there a specific project or experience that led you here?

Growing up, I had a front-row seat to the creation of Capterra Risk Solutions, founded by my mother. Her work sparked my early interest in the industry, and when I was ready to take the next step, the Capterra team welcomed me with enthusiasm and a strong commitment to mentoring the next generation of risk professionals.

Who or what has significantly influenced your understanding of captive insurance?

The entire team at Capterra has dedicated many hours to one-on-one time with me, training me and teaching me the ins and outs of the company as well as the unique aspects of the captive insurance industry.

What is your impression of the captive insurance industry? What aspects of it do you find most promising?

When people hear I work in insurance, their first question is often, “Do you enjoy it?” I am always happy to answer with a confident yes. Insurance is a multifaceted industry, and I find it genuinely exciting to work with clients to address their unique challenges. Each engagement offers an opportunity to craft tailored solutions that make a meaningful impact on their business.

What key trends or developments have you noticed in the captive industry recently, and how do you see them shaping the sector’s future?

Artificial intelligence is beginning to reshape captive operations — from underwriting and claims to data analytics and strategic planning. This tech-driven evolution is improving efficiency and enabling more precise risk modelling, which will likely become a standard in future captive programmes.

What do you find most enjoyable about working in this field, and what challenges or opportunities have you observed for new professionals?

What I enjoy most about working in captive insurance is the ability to make a tangible impact on clients’ businesses. Helping them take control of their risk strategy and build long-term financial resilience is incredibly rewarding.

For new professionals, one of the biggest opportunities lies in learning how to translate complex risk concepts into actionable strategies — especially as more companies seek alternatives to traditional insurance.

How do you continue to develop your knowledge in this specialised industry?

I am currently pursuing my Associate in Captive Insurance (ACI) designation to deepen my expertise in the field. I am also excited to be attending the Chubb Agency Educational Training in Seattle this autumn, a valuable opportunity to expand my knowledge and engage with industry leaders.

What are your aspirations for your career within the captive insurance industry?

I am committed to ongoing growth and continuous learning across all facets of the captive insurance industry, with the goal of being a valuable asset to Capterra Risk Solutions.

For those exploring a career path in captive insurance, what advice would you share based on your experience?

To any new graduates who are looking to join the captive insurance industry — do not be afraid to dive in and ask questions.

I have found that everyone in the industry will jump at the bit to share their wealth of knowledge and be an advocate for you developing a love for the industry.

Have any mentors or colleagues played a particularly helpful role in your professional development since you began working in the captive space?

I would like to specifically thank the vice president of Capterra Risk Solutions, Bill Eleamos.

No matter how busy he is, he meets my questions with care and enthusiasm. I am thrilled at the opportunity to learn from him and work with him.
