William Megna has joined Genova Burns as counsel in its Newark, New Jersey, office and will co-direct the its insurance law practice group.

The insurance law practice group will handle insurance company formation and governance, including captive insurers and risk retention groups.

Megna has been in private practice for more than two decades. He has held various in-house insurance positions, including vice president and counsel for Home Life Insurance, and associate counsel and Florida regional council for USLIFE Corporation.

He specialises in representing insurance and other regulated financial institutions and his expertise spans a range of insurance products and services, including property and casualty, life and health, reinsurance, surplus lines and captives.

He has represented many clients in the formation and licensing of insurers and producers, in obtaining approval of rates and forms, as well as enforcement matters.

In addition to dealing with regulators at all levels of state insurance and health departments and federal agencies relating to insurance, he also spends time representing clients before Congress, state legislatures and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
