Beazley appoints Stefan Wunderlich as head of alternative risk transfer (ART), expanding his remit alongside his existing role as head of parametric. He will relocate to Bermuda, subject to immigration approval.
The specialty insurer says the deployment of Wunderlich's expertise will see a step change in its ART offering, which includes parametrics. He will join Richard Gray and the team in Bermuda, with the move aimed at accelerating ART growth and expanding the insurer's offerings to captives.
Beazley also confirms a new office location at Ninety-One, 91 Front Street, opening in June 2027. The insurer describes Bermuda as its strategic hub for complex and specialty solutions, including ART, mortgage indemnity insurance and property treaty reinsurance. The lease was secured through Brookfield Asset Management.
Wunderlich joined Beazley in June 2025 as head of parametric, leading the insurer's parametric proposition globally. He moves into the expanded ART role on his one-year anniversary with the firm.
He brings extensive catastrophe and innovation experience from a long career at Swiss Re and Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, where his roles included chief product officer for risk data and services, head of innovation and transformation for property and specialty, and head of natural catastrophe. He began his career as a catastrophe perils specialist and model architect, co-authoring the financial module of Swiss Re's proprietary natural catastrophe model.
Paul Bantick, group chief underwriting officer at Beazley, comments on the appointment.
"We are moving at pace to build out our presence in Bermuda," Bantick says. "We have a growing team on the ground, are already successfully underwriting Property Treaty and the deployment of Stefan's expertise will see a step change in our ART offering, which includes parametrics. It's exciting to be part of Bermuda's innovative insurance community and have the opportunity to better support our brokers and clients manage complex risks."
