Bermuda Captive Conference to explore evolving risk strategies

The Bermuda Captive Conference will return to its summer schedule this year, taking place from 9 to 11 June at the Hamilton Princess Hotel and Beach Club.

The 2025 conference will be held under the theme ‘Re-Imagining Risk: The Next Frontier’, with a programme covering developments in risk management, regulation, and captive insurance strategy.

The event will feature more than 65 speakers across 15 sessions, addressing topics including geopolitical risk, climate resilience, regulatory updates, and portfolio optimisation. The agenda is designed to appeal to both experienced captive owners and organisations considering alternative risk financing for the first time.

Technology and data are expected to play a significant role in discussions, with sessions exploring the use of AI in underwriting, claims processing, and risk modelling.

Parametric insurance will also be examined, particularly its application in areas where traditional insurance structures are limited, such as weather-related and business interruption risks.

The conference will include updates on Bermuda’s regulatory landscape, including recent changes related to solvency, economic substance, and digital compliance.

Regulators, legal experts, and market participants will provide insight into how captive jurisdictions are adapting to changing risk and compliance expectations.

The 2025 event marks a return to a three-day format, with the reintroduction of Monday afternoon sessions and a closed-door ‘Captive Owners Lunch’ for peer exchange.

A new internship initiative will be launched during the event, developed in partnership with KPMG in Bermuda and the Bermuda Captive Network. The programme is intended to support local workforce development and provide pathways into the captive insurance sector.

“Reimagining risk reflects the mindset shift we are seeing across the risk landscape,” says Seádna Kirwan, chair of the Bermuda Captive Conference. “This year’s agenda is forward-looking but grounded in real-world solutions.”

Kirwan adds that the event aims to take a broad view of the sector’s development: “It is about understanding how jurisdictions are adapting and how Bermuda continues to lead with clarity and credibility.”
