MS Amlin Underwriting (MS AUL), the Lloyd’s (re)insurer, has appointed Andrew Carrier to the newly created role of chief underwriting officer, as part of a company restructure.
Effective 7 September, Carrier will report to Tom Clementi, CEO of MS AUL.
He will be responsible for managing the firm’s underwriting business, including the syndicate’s reinsurance and speciality insurance divisions.
Carrier will review MS AUL’s underwriting portfolio and strategy, to reposition the business, where necessary, for future success.
As part of the ongoing restructuring at the firm, the previous co-chief underwriting officers management structure will be dissolved.
Andrew Wright and Mark Clements, co-chief underwriting officers for speciality insurance and Phil Wooldridge, co-chief underwriting officer for reinsurance, will step down from their roles on 30 September 2020.
As part of the restructuring, group and legacy MS Amlin structures have been removed.
Clementi said: “A renewed approach to disciplined underwriting will be central to the success of our long-term strategy and the creation of Andrew Carrier’s role, and his appointment is a natural next step in this process.”
“Andrew Carrier’s depth of leadership and industry experience, combined with his strong track record of successfully managing and delivering growth for high-profile (re)insurance business, will be integral to supporting MS AUL as we continue to create a more modern, relevant, profitable and client-focused business built around the expertise of our people.”
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Andrew Wright, Mark Clements and Phil Wooldridge, whose contributions to the business over the years have been significant. Their years of hard work and commitment have helped to position the business well for the future, and we are grateful that they will continue to serve on the MS AUL team until September to ensure a smooth transition for our brokers and insureds,” he added.
