The Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) confirms two new insurer registrations for September 2026: Sun Life Bermuda as a Class C insurer, effective 24 September, and Munitor Re as a restricted special purpose insurer (SPI), effective 15 September.
Neither falls within Classes 1, 2 or 3, after three registrations in those classes in August. Six of the 42 insurers registered in Bermuda this year are in Classes 1, 2 and 3: two in Class 1, three in Class 2 and one in Class 3.
The BMA’s Insurance Assessment and Licensing Committee reviewed nine insurance applications in September, six new and three carried forward, approving eight and deferring one. The BMA notes that registration follows the committee’s approval, so approvals and registrations may fall in different periods.
Two agents were also registered in September, Cipher Underwriting and Kinetic Insurance Services Bermuda. The September figures also include Acumen Managers, registered as an insurance manager in late August, which the BMA says was omitted from the August statistics previously reported. With Acumen Managers included, the BMA puts September registrations at five.
The registrations take Bermuda’s total for 2026 to 42 insurers and nine intermediaries. The insurer total comprises 13 restricted SPIs, nine Class E insurers, five collateralised insurers, three each in Classes 2, 3A and C, two in Class 1, and one each in Classes 3, 3B, 4 and A. The intermediaries are seven agents, one manager and one broker.
