The RIMS Ontario Chapter (ORIMS) presents the 2026 Donald M. Stuart Award to April Savchuk, director, global insurance and risk at Centerra Gold.
The award, which ORIMS describes as Canada’s highest honour in risk management, has recognised Canadians who have made outstanding contributions to the profession since 1979. It was presented at the RIMS Canada Conference 2026 in Quebec City.
At Centerra Gold, Savchuk oversees global insurance, enterprise risk management, crisis coordination and reclamation surety strategies. ORIMS says Savchuk has helped organisations explore and implement alternative risk financing and captive insurance strategies, and navigate M&A insurance and risk management programmes.
Savchuk began in Aon Reed Stenhouse’s Anistics Group before moving into risk management leadership roles at Hudson’s Bay Company, Catlin Canada, Crawford Canada and Yamana Gold.
Savchuk is co-president of the William H. McGannon Foundation, having held leadership roles there for 15 years, and held ORIMS leadership roles from 2000 to 2013, including president in 2005 and 2011. Savchuk also co-chaired the RIMS Canada Conference national conference committee from 2011 to 2017.
Savchuk says: “It has been my greatest sense of honour to give back, and to provide our next generation the tools to pave their own future success. This award has always represented the standard of achievement and leadership within the Canadian Risk Management community.”
The Fred H. Bossons Award, awarded by GRMI for the highest average mark on the three examinations required for the CRM designation, goes to Evelyn (Yiyan) Huang.
