Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) president Dan Towle delivers the keynote address at Zurich Captive Dialogue Day on 23 June, held at the Zurich Development Center in Zurich, Switzerland.
The invitation-only conference brings together captive owners, risk managers, industry leaders and insurance professionals from across Europe and beyond to examine emerging trends and strategic opportunities in captive insurance. This year's theme, 'Turning Uncertainty into Strategy', focuses on how organisations can navigate a complex risk environment through innovation, resilience and alternative risk financing.
Towle's keynote, 'The Golden Age of Captive Insurance', offers a global perspective on the forces shaping the industry's future, including evolving risk exposures, geopolitical uncertainty, regulatory developments, talent challenges, technological innovation and the growing role of captives as strategic business tools.
“Captive insurance is no longer viewed simply as an insurance financing mechanism,” Towle says. “Around the world, captives are increasingly being recognised as strategic assets that help organisations address emerging risks, improve resilience and create long-term value. As risk becomes more complex and interconnected, captives are uniquely positioned to provide solutions where traditional markets often fall short.”
Towle also addresses the industry's expansion across Europe, North America and other global markets, and the importance of maintaining credibility, transparency and strong regulatory relationships as the sector grows.
“We are living through a period of unprecedented opportunity for captive insurance,” Towle says. “Organisations are facing challenges ranging from cyber threats and supply chain disruption to climate-related exposures and geopolitical uncertainty. Captives have proven their value in helping businesses navigate these risks, and the industry's future has never been more promising. At the same time, we must continue to advocate for sound public policy, invest in education, and demonstrate the important role captives play in strengthening risk management worldwide.”
CICA describes itself as the only domicile-neutral captive insurance association, serving captive owners, service providers, regulators and industry stakeholders through education, advocacy, networking and thought leadership. The association continues to expand its international engagement and leads advocacy efforts in Washington, DC, educating policymakers on the value and legitimacy of captive insurance.
Adriana Scherzinger, group head of captives at Zurich Insurance Group, says the association's president is a fitting choice. “Dan is one of the most respected voices in the global captive industry. His clear view of industry trends, advocacy priorities and strategic opportunities will give the participants valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities ahead,” Scherzinger says.
