Alabama to host in-person captive conference

The Alabama Captive Insurance Association (ACIA) is set to host its annual conference in person on 16 to 18 September 2020 at the Westin Birmingham, Alabama.

The ACIA conference will focus on promoting student engagement by incorporating student-focused sessions and networking opportunities.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ACIA stated that they are taking “extra precautionary measures” to ensure safety for all attendees, including providing complimentary masks and hand sanitiser to each attendee.

The association will also be implementing an official ‘no-touch’ conference greeting, and collaborating with the event venue to implement additional safety measures such as hand sanitising stations, social distancing protocols through the event, and removing buffet-style eating options.

The 2020 conference will host insurance professionals, captive owners, insurance agents, and risk management and insurance students from around the nation to address industry-driving topics and the future of the captive industry.

Commenting on the student-focused sessions, Justin Law, managing director of the Risky Business internship programme, said: “With the launch of the association’s Risky Business internship programme, we are excited to provide risk management and insurance students with educational resources and networking opportunities to recruit the next generation of professionals into the risk management and insurance industry.”

“This year’s conference will be unlike any conference we’ve had in the past,” said Norman Chandler, president of the association.

He continued: “With innovative networking and recruiting opportunities, new industry-driving session topics, and unique social events, the 2020 annual conference will set the precedence for our future conferences moving forward.”
